SUMMARY

The story I’m Not Just a Scribble… is a about a Scribble who looks a little bit different than the other pictures, but knows that he special. 

Throughout the story, Scribble goes to different pictures and asks if he can play with them. The pictures say no and point out that scribble looks different than them and is more messy and colorful. Scribble stays true to himself, and does not let them get him down.

At the end of the story, the other pictures apologize the Scribble and ask him to play with them. The pictures create a big, beautiful picture because they are all working together. 

Students will love this story about diversity and staying true to oneself.

Here are some ways you can use I'm Not Just a Scribble in your classroom. 

  1. Explore how the author uses rhyme throughout the story.
  2. Discuss the author's purpose for writing the book. 
  3. Ask students to write about their personal connections to the story.
  4. Have students write descriptive paragraphs about the main character. 
  5. Teach students about quotation marks and what they are used for. 
  6. Review and practice using nouns and adjectives. 
  7. Lead a class discussion on forgiveness and apologizing.
  8. Discuss the importance of advocacy and positive self talk.
