SUMMARY

"Maddi's Fridge" by Lois Brandt tells the story of two best friends, Sofia and Maddi, who discover a secret about each other. While playing at Maddi's house, Sofia opens the fridge and finds it almost empty, except for a small carton of milk. She realizes that Maddi's family is struggling with food insecurity. Determined to help her friend, Sofia wants to share her own food, but Maddi insists on keeping it a secret. As Sofia grapples with the ethical dilemma of keeping her promise to Maddi or reaching out for help, she learns the importance of compassion and supporting one another. The book addresses the issue of childhood hunger and the stigma surrounding it in a sensitive and age-appropriate way, encouraging empathy and understanding among young readers. With its beautiful illustrations and heartfelt storytelling, "Maddi's Fridge" highlights the power of friendship and the importance of addressing food insecurity in our communities.
