Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner is a book I make sure to read to my class every year. No matter what type of class I have and what interests they have, students adore this story. Our blog post today is all about this magical read aloud that gets young readers imaginations going. Snowmen at Night is a book that can make a child fall in love with books and reading. - Jodi and the Starts With a Story Team
In this book, a young boy makes a snowman and realizes it looks different the next day. He starts to imagine all the things that snowmen do at night. Snowmen come alive at night and make their way to the park. They drink hot cocoa, go ice skating and play baseball. The boy imagines the snowmen having snowball fights and sledding down a hill. Once the sun starts to rise and the snowmen are tired, they make their way back to their home. This cute rhyming story explains why children’s snowmen might look different over time.
My students love this book so much I could seriously teach them anything using it. My reluctant writers will take out pencils excitedly, and students that struggle with grammar are willing to give something new a try. There is so much you can do with Snowmen at Night.
