SUMMARY

"The Substitute Teacher from the Black Lagoon" by Mike Thaler, is a story that follows the imaginative worries of a young student named Hubie as his class prepares for a fun and work free day with a substitute teacher. Hubie's wild imagination leads him to believe that the substitute will be a monstrous creature from the infamous Black Lagoon. He envisions the substitute as a terrifying figure who might subject the class to all sorts of scary activities. As the day unfolds, Hubie's classmates share their own exaggerated fears about the substitute teacher. However, to their surprise, the substitute turns out to be friendly, creative, humerous and caring, shattering their misconceptions. The book humorously portrays the anxiety and anticipation students often feel about having a substitute teacher and showcases the idea that reality can be much different from one's initial expectations.
