SUMMARY

"Too Many Tamales" by Gary Soto tells the delightful and humorous story of Maria, a young girl who gets caught up in a mischievous culinary adventure on Christmas Eve. Eager to feel grown-up, Maria puts on her mother's ring and helps make tamales for their holiday feast. However, in the midst of the cooking frenzy, she accidentally loses the ring in the tamale dough. Panicked, Maria and her cousins decide to eat all the tamales in order to find the ring. As the tamales quickly disappear, the kids soon realize they have a hilarious and stomach-churning problem on their hands. With a delightful blend of cultural traditions, family dynamics, and a sprinkle of holiday magic, "Too Many Tamales" teaches lessons about honesty, family bonds, and the true meaning of Christmas. In the end, Maria learns valuable lessons about the importance of honesty, forgiveness, and the spirit of the season.
